Frequently asked questions

Answers to what is asked most often before booking.

Booking & process

How can I request or book a tour?

Simply send your enquiry by email to info@heide-reisen.de or via the contact form – with your preferred dates and a few details about your group. I usually get back to you within one to two business days, and we settle everything else in a personal phone call. The booking only becomes binding once we've spoken and you've confirmed.

Why aren't there ready-made itineraries or brochures to download?

Because every trip is different. I put each programme together with you – matched to your interests, travel dates and group size. A short conversation is worth more than an off-the-shelf PDF.

Can I travel on my own?

Yes, very much so. The groups are small and personal anyway – you'll know everyone after the first dinner together. Solo travellers are the rule here, not the exception.

What happens if a tour doesn't go ahead?

If a tour doesn't reach the minimum number of participants, I let you know as early as possible before the planned date. Any payments already made are of course refunded in full.

Tours & groups

Where do the tours start and end?

Most tours start in Sibiu (Hermannstadt) or Brașov (Kronstadt) and their surroundings – the two cities with the most to tell about Transylvania. The exact starting point depends on the programme.

How do I get to Transylvania – and do you book the flight?

It's best to book your flight yourself, usually to Sibiu or Cluj – that way you stay flexible on times and airline. If you'd like help, I'm happy to support you with the booking for a small service fee (€20 per person). Pick-up on arrival is arranged individually as part of your programme.

How large are the tour groups?

I deliberately keep groups small and private – usually up to 7 or 8 people. That leaves room for questions, conversation and the odd spontaneous detour.

What language are the tours and city walks in?

All tours and city walks are conducted in German. I organise them, and they're led on the ground by German-speaking local partners who know Transylvania inside out.

How fit do I need to be for the tours?

Normal everyday fitness is entirely enough for the classic culture and city tours. A bit more stamina helps on tours with a hiking element, such as around Lake Bâlea – though even there the stages are planned at a relaxed pace.

Prices & payment

What's included in the price – and what isn't?

Exactly what's included – accommodation, local transfers or guided tours, for example – is listed separately for each programme, as the trips differ. Not included, as a rule, are entrance fees, drinks and personal expenses.

When and how do I pay?

A 50% deposit is due once the booking is confirmed; the remaining balance is settled by individual arrangement before departure.
